With this work I aspired to the notion of transformation that underpins the whole Urban Traces project. Using tracings of my regular journeys around London I highlighted sections of text from a book about life in the city. This created a series of visual poems, which I then recorded onto tape. In a strange way the sense of the words still remains even though they have been torn from their original context. Like a William Burroughs cut-up experiment the final tape collage may be said to provide more truth than the original; the meaning is allowed to shine through simply by means of the process.
